Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
